Women in tech at Readly: Meet Lotta, Product Manager, Discover Content

Why did you choose to work in tech?
It’s the ultimate treasure hunt. There’s something about tech that feels like solving a mystery, uncovering hidden opportunities, tackling big challenges, and finding better ways to do things. I’m driven by continuous improvement and tech is the key enabler, even when the right solution feels impossible to find.
How did your career in tech start?
I actually studied media & communication and literature, so I don’t have the typical tech or engineering background. But that has never been a disadvantage, if anything, it’s been an asset. I started out in marketing, worked as a project manager, and have experience from both large corporations and smaller companies, in both public and private sectors. For the past 15 years, I’ve been a product manager, a role where my diverse background has been a real advantage.
A great product leader doesn’t just need technical expertise; they need deep domain knowledge and the ability to connect different perspectives. Every profession today has a tech component, and having a non-technical background can actually be a strength - it allows you to bridge gaps between disciplines.
What made you decide to join Readly?
I felt aligned with Readly’s strategy and direction. The product keeps advancing, and knowing that what we build today will be even more refined tomorrow makes every step forward inspiring On a broader level, I believe in the importance of a free press and responsible journalism as a pillar of democracy. Readly offers a strong news coverage while also providing entertaining and engaging content that people turn to for relaxation, amusement, and escapism.
What’s the best thing about your team at Readly?
We all share a passion for discovering better technical solutions. It’s that treasure-hunting mindset again. Our team is diverse, spanning backend, frontend, and design, with members of different ages and backgrounds. Even though we’re spread across five locations, we’ve built a strong, tight-knit team. Product development is never a straight road. There are obstacles, unexpected turns, and complex challenges. Sometimes things don’t work as expected, sometimes solutions break, and sometimes you have to rethink your entire approach. But that’s what makes it exciting. We tackle problems together, learn from them, and push forward.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Still treasure hunting. Still working with digital product development in the consumer space. The tools and technology will evolve, but the thrill of solving problems and building great products will always be the same.
