Women in tech at Readly - meet Kan Bin, android developer
Tell us a bit about yourself!
When I set foot in Sweden in 2006, I thought I was embarking on a brief adventure to pursue my master’s in technical engineering at Blekinge Institute of Technology before returning to my home country of China. Fast forward to today, and I find myself living in Stockholm, married to my husband from India, raising our two wonderful kids. And working at Readly to make a vital pillar of democracy accessible to people around the globe.
How did you end up as an app developer?
From an early age, I’ve had a passion and curiosity about programming. After a few years of working in Sweden, I studied programming, especially within app development. I worked as an app developer within different industries; bank, fintech and audiobook. My other passion is reading magazines so when I started to work for Readly, it was just the right match!
Are women specifically important in app development?
App development has historically been a male dominated technical area. But, a large, if not equal portion of the consumers are female. This means we are losing a vital perspective in its development. With advancements in technology, app development is evolving into a more creative and user-focused field, requiring diverse perspectives to truly resonate with a broad audience—including the large share of female consumers.
How can developing apps contribute to a better future?
Apps have the transformative power to educate, connect, and empower communities. By focusing on meaningful content, we can develop tools that foster understanding and collaboration, shaping a future where tech uplifts and inspires everyone.
