Role Overview

The primary responsibility of the Head of Content Operations is to channel the needs of the Readly Publishing Clients in a digestible format to the internal Readly IT and Product teams, and, likewise, to represent the Readly Product team to Readly publishing clients. Working closely with (and as a member of) the Content Team, the Head of Content Operations has a solid understanding of how business operations function, identifying improvement opportunities and defining technical requirements to help with the implementation of new solutions or product features. Reporting to the Chief Content Officer, you will be instrumental in building a product that our users want to subscribe to. You must be as comfortable working at a high level as well as hands on.

Key Responsibilities

As the Content Team’s Head of Content Operations, you are able to:

  • Obtain an understanding of the clients business processes and develop an ongoing appreciation of the wider business context, in terms of the industry in which the project is being rolled out and the technology applications to be used
  • Help develop, define, and promote the Readly Product strategy defined by Readly HQ, both internally and with our clients.
  • Manage the global Readly production team and process, including direct reports.
  • Assist with the review and evaluation of supplier proposals on potential projects.
  • Liaise with the Content Team and other internal stakeholders in understanding publisher requirements and process.
  • Comprehensively gather functional/technical/business requirements of the incoming product development, and produce required documentation and meeting notes
  • Work with the Product teams to ensure the greatest chance of success for the delivered product.
  • Adapt and work with a variety of project management governance models such as the various styles of Agile, and/or PRINCE2. 
  • Form and sustain effective working relationships and communications with the client, the IT Technical Services team, the IT Development teams, the IT Product team and suppliers
  • Contribute ideas for new and/or improved services
  • Highlight issues, risks and constraints to the Project Manager
  • Assist other members of the projects team as required
  • Occasional management of activities within a larger project

Qualifications, Experience and Personality

In order to qualify for this role, you are able to demonstrate or prove:

  • Previous experience with either project management or technical business analyst type roles.
  • Experience in managing direct reports.
  • Experience working across the publishing industry with your own network of contacts.
  • Strong verbal, writing, and presenting skills.
  • Both self-motivation and team-motivation skills in abundance.
  • You’re a power user of apps/tablets/mobile/software/e-mail/social media/spreadsheets and word processors.
  • You have some experience with basic publishing tools (Acrobat, inDesign etc).
  • You have the ability to innovate and improvise as well as creating bulletproof routines and processes.
  • You’re an organized and representative self-starter who is prepared to get your hands dirty when needed.
